What is the Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

At the end of 2019, a new type of coronavirus began making people sick with flu-like symptoms. The illness is called coronavirus disease-19 — COVID-19 for short. The first cases were diagnosed in people who had visited a market in China that sold live seafood and animals. The virus spreads easily and has now affected people in many countries.

What is sin? Sin is breaking God’s law, and sin separates people from God.

God had promised that one of Eve’s descendants would put an end to sin and death. Cain was not that descendant. He was sinful like his parents, Adam and Eve. So people kept living and trusting God to keep His promise. At just the right time, God would send His Son to save sinners. (Hebrews 11:13; Galatians 4:4)

Jacob stole Esau’s blessing.

What can stop God’s plan? Nothing can stop God’s perfect plan.

Christ Connection

Jesus is the firstborn over all creation. (Colossians 1:15) When Jesus hung on the cross, He gave up His blessing for us. Jesus took the punishment we deserve so that the Father would give us the blessing He deserves.

God sent Joseph to Egypt and blessed him so that he rose to a position of great power. God used Joseph to help Joseph’s family and many others. Jesus gave up His position of great power to be the Savior of the world.

God rescued Moses to deliver His people from captivity.

What is God’s plan? God’s plan is to rescue His people from captivity.

Christ Connection

God saved Moses to rescue His people. The calling of Moses points to a greater calling and rescue— the call of Jesus to come to earth to save God’s people from sin. Moses and Jesus both obeyed God’s commands in order to carry out His plan of salvation. Moses delivered God’s people from physical captivity; Jesus delivered God’s people from captivity to sin.

At Passover, God spared the Israelites from judgment by requiring the blood of a lamb. Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, and God provided a way for them to escape through the Red Sea. The Bible says that Jesus is greater than Moses. (Hebrews 3:3) Jesus is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. People who trust in Jesus escape the penalty of sin and have eternal life.
