This year has been full of experiences that many of us weren’t expecting. A lot of these experiences have not been the best and many people will tell you this year has brought on some of the worst experiences of their lives. We have gone from people getting very sick to people dying to people overcoming rare illnesses; the things that normally happen in this life but this year, happened at a greater scale.
One thing that hasn’t changed and still remains the same; our God’s love and faithfulness. Hebrews 13:8 tells us that, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
No matter what we have been through this year, God’s love and faithfulness has carried us through all of it. He loves us so much that not only did he send his only Son to redeem us (John 3:16) but He has always remained with us, as unfaithful as we have been with him. “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
Although many of us have felt alone and lonely at times throughout this year, we have the blessed assurance that God has always been by our side, “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart,” (Psalm 91:4) and protecting us while bringing us comfort and peace in a world that has always been full of chaos. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
He has already overcome! This is the reason why we still celebrate among the chaos! This is why we owe him so much more than our lives!
There is a verse in Psalm 36:5 that says, “Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.” Many years ago, a band called, “Third Day,” made a song based on this verse called, “Your Love Oh Lord,” that has very basic but resonating words about God’s love and faithfulness that I would like to leave you with as we end the year 2020. Let’s reflect on these words as we enter 2021, make our new year’s resolutions AND let’s never forget that this song is a reminder that no matter what we are going through, God is and will always be with us.
