Choosing God Over Anything

Your Christian faith is what you make of it. You can choose to read the bible, pray and congregate with fellow believers, or you can choose to forego all of this and spend time in the wrong places and with the wrong people.

The only problem with this is that God does not like it for believers to have one leg in the church and one leg in the world, as His word says in Revelation 3:16, “So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”

Unfortunately, we seem to be lukewarm more often than we would like to since many times, it seems like we have desires in our hearts that mean more to us than God does.

One of our biggest flaws, as sinners, is something Pastor Chris mentioned in one of his messages; that “our desire is to love something more than God.” He referenced Luke 16:13, which states that, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other…”

It’s disheartening to think that we love the things of this world more than we love God, but it is also comforting to know that God has given us the opportunity to choose Him over the things of this world.

Pastor Chris referenced CS Lewis who said, “There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, in the end, ‘Thy will be done.’ All that are in hell, choose it. Without that self-choice there could be no hell.”

Let’s ensure that we become the kinds of people who ask God for His will to be done and not the other way around. Ensure that you spend time with God daily, speak with Him every chance you get and focus on Him only and not on the things of this world.
